On the QOS, Draytek has now what it calls borrowed bandwidth in which it does not have to reserve a percentage of the bandwidth for an specific kind of traffic all the time. It does it only when that kind of traffic is present. Big improvement!

José, those are some great links. That first PSD is a much snazzier case than mine.

It's been a while, so I don't recall offhand how I made the SlipCover case out of the PSD. I think I went into other ".case" files in ~/Library/Application Support/SlipCover/, clicked "Show package contents," and then sort of reverse engineered the whole thing.

Looking at it now, I see you've got to have a .png for each resolution, and then plot the pixel coordinates in the accompanying XML file. With a bit of trial and error, you should get there.

Darn right! I bought a Vigor 2130 for it's supposed excellent performance, but have somewhat erratic VoIP experiences. I use an Asterisk (v1.8.2) PBX on my network, and have found what I believe to be "port overload". When my two smartphone SIP phones, Bria for iPhone and Android, try to make calls simultaneously the RTP packets for one call get routed to the to the other phone !!

As you point out, it is hard to pin VoIP problems down to a particular bit of HW, but I am quite suspicious of the Draytek 2130 and intend to replace it with a pfsense router . . .

Just to follow up on all this, after a lot of emails and searching got to bottom of some but not a solution yet.

Draytek in their wisdom fix at manufacture a country code to the routers, each territory then controls what feature set is enabled or not in the respective territories (the firmware is identical).

Draktek UK have stopped users using QoS on most of the router range for some strange reason.

Bit like having a porsche car but they have removed half of the engine management system so engine only fires on 3 cylinders.

The next firmware update is supposed to reinstate the QoS feature but no timescale is being provided.

I am not happy about this as the router just is not doing what is should do.

I have to say the UK dealer I purchased router from has been excellent.

Tech support of Draytek have not been upfront and taken over a month to admit all this.

I will need to decide if I want to keep router or return it, if I return it what to replace it with ?

Just to follow up on your second point voice active detector, that does exist but draytek have not advised at all about that which is interesting as I had not seen this function buried in menus until you mentioned it.

the version 2.5 manual only gives this a very passing mention so not sure how well this works yet.

my codecs and packet size are correct as per my sip providers.
(i have 2).

Perhaps you can advise an email address and we can have conversation on some of these points.

If there was a QoS setting under the bandwidth management section i would have adjusted it by now. There is NOT.

The firmware I have from draytek 3.3.5.1 does NOT have this for the 2110 VN.

Draytek also sent me links for previous firmware files, these do not have QoS either.

Period.

I can email you screen shots if you like.

The voice quality whilst doing a download is at times impossible to have a conversation.

Email I received from draytek on friday 11th March. :-

"I have check with engineers and they have confirmed that QoS on
current firmware version was not fully functionally. It will be added
in future firmware release."

Again, I'd really like to know precisely what DrayTek has said about this. It could be that other models are affected. Or it could be that you need to adjust your codec/packet size.

Call quality with my 2110Vn and now the 2130Vn hasn't always been flawless but it's not consistently poor enough for me to regard it as a problem, either.

There are NO setting for QoS with the current (or previous) firmware of the 2110Vn.

You cannot priorities with this router (other versions maybe but NOT the Vn.

The call quality breaks up when downloading a file.

There is no priority for voip and have been cut off or unable to make voice calls due to other data transfer taking place.

I now have email from draytek acknowledging there is a problem.

I've since upgraded to a 2130Vn (am slowly compiling the review), which means I can't quickly check for additional settings that might help you.

I'd like to know more about your specific issues and what DrayTek has said in response. I do know that call quality can lapse from time to time, but that seems to be a drawback of VoIP itself.

For over a month being having an email exchange with draytek about VOIP call quality.

Eventually they have come clean and confirmed there are issues.

Not happy at spending so much for a router that does not perform to datasheet or claimed spec.

Thanks for this post. I too am struggling with a post-Journler application. I've tried SohoNotes, Circus Ponies Notebook, DevonThink, Bento, Filemaker, Evernote, MacJournal, and possibly some others that I'm forgetting. None of these are able to measure up to Journler. I'm an academic and used Journler to keep track of everything from lesson plans to book proposals and annotations. None of these applications can hope to match Journler in simplicity and functionality. SohoNotes is the closest in terms of functionality to Journler, but the bugs put me off every time. I've just tested the new Sohonotes 9 - more bugs!

Yes, I believe the 802.11n for the 2110Vn is still draft. All the info I've been able to dig up on DrayTek's site as well as those of licensed resellers says that it "complies with 802.11n Draft-n," although I'm also sure that it's WiFi certified for b, g, and n — which more or less guarantees widespread compliance.

I haven't had any router-based WLAN connection issues with reliable, up-to-date devices. The only two devices that gave me a headache in this area were a Canon MP600R all-in-one, which was the biggest turd of any electronic device I've ever owned, and an old school iBook G3 that's pushing a decade.

As for VPN performance, I have to plead ignorance. I haven't used the VPN functionality at all. I'd Google for others' experience with it; the whirlpool.au forums have a number of DrayTek users that make daily use of these more advanced features.

Nice post, I agree with you that Draytek addresses many features which most of the mainstream vendors miss out (perhaps deliberately?). I've just brought one 2110Vn, about to set it up in few days time (I've been traveling, unable to find time). Few questions to you:

1) Is the 802.11n still Draft v2.0, I thought it was finalized, nevertheless was there any in compatibilities, I intend to use it for iPhone 4 and iPad mainly.

2) how are the VPN dial in and out features, that's one of the reasons I brought it coz I live in a country where VoIP is restricted, VPN client on the router will certainly help reduce my bill.

the device doesn't actually record GPS coordinates. It just stores satellite positions in a proprietary format. The external software is then used to connect to their servers and lookup the GPS coordinates based on the satellite positions and time stamps.
Thats why the tagging doesn't work without internet connection and why the device is not usable with any other software.
