Twitter for Bargain Hunters?
HERE'S another example of how I underestimated Twitter. 99Rental, the site that tracks the time-limited 99¢ movie rental deals at the iTunes Store, also has a Twitter account. When the 99¢-movie-of-the-week changes, you'll get a heads up via your Twitter page or your Twitter client (in my case, NatsuLion). For this sort of thing, Twitter just makes sense.
I've already seen most of the films that have been offered so far (Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Usual Suspects, A Fish Called Wanda, The Untouchables, and Robocop, to name a few, though I've somehow managed to miss Bulletproof Monk and Saved); nearly all of them are worth watching again when admission is just under a buck.
[Update 29 June: Looks like there's a Twitter feed for bargain music lovers, too. AmazonMP3 tweets all Amazon.com's sale (usually $3.99 or less) albums as they appear. Some good stuff there: Morrissey, The Decemberists, Liam Finn, The Shins, and more. Amazon beats out the iTunes Store hands down when it comes to DRM, as there are no restrictions on what you do with your music or where you play it, though they still use the all-purpose MP3 encoding rather than superior MP4.]
